Former front-woman and lead vocalist of a band called Hey Monday, Cassadee Pope is ready to make it on her own and what a way to do that by releasing her debut solo album entitled Frame By Frame.
As a fan of Hey Monday, I was surprised to see Cassadee audition for hit TV show The Voice which she eventually won under the ward of resident coach Blake Shelton.
I didn't really watch the show but I've heard so much good praises for her which is why I'm not surprised that she took home the grand prize.
Like any singing contest, a part of the winner's prize is having a record deal and releasing an album.
I was quite worried since she seems to be going the country route. It isn't a bad idea but I love her for her pop-rock music. But I was willing to give her new music a try.
Her first single, Wasting All These Tears, is a song that something Avril Lavigne or Michelle Branch would sing which isn't bad at all. It took me a while for it to grow on me but I really love it now.
The 11-track album starts with catchy singles Good Time and Champagne which sets the tone of the album. You could sense the country tinge right from the start but what I like about it is that you still get to hear a part of her former sound with her band. It's also nice that she doesn't have to have some sort of country twang or use generic instruments.
I don't listen to a lot of country but this is one of my favorite country albums already. I appreciate the honesty in the lyrics and the feisty-ness that comes along with it such as those that can be felt in I Wish I Could Break Your Heart or the sincerity in songs like 11.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this album and its definitely one of my favorite releases this year.
