2/28/14

What do you do when there's a particular person that you want to avoid but keeps on following you? I'm not talking about those crushes or anything but I have been in that situation for quite some time now.

I have a particular officemate whom I used to be close with but due to some misunderstandings and some realizations, I have come to terms that my friendship with this person is affecting me negatively and all I can be with that person is to have a civil relationship.

Even before, my officemate was so clingy for some reason. Even in personal matters, he would often be snooping as well as expecting too much from me. I would receive plenty of random messages asking all about the same thing over and over again and it was like a cycle that never seem to end.

When I resigned, I thought and admittedly felt sort of relieved that I won't have too much contact with him anymore. I don't want to burn bridges with anyone but I think that when I left, we were okay.

However, I still get some messages on him on my phone, as well as missed calls on untimely hours and messages on FB. I try to ignore him and whenever I make a reply, I just get bombarded with questions about work. Guess he doesn't get the hint that I quit work for a reason. Some people thought that our failed friendship was the reason I left but that is completely false.

I can't really ignore him as I still need him as my references for my resume. The last I heard about him is from my other officemate who is now feeling the same clingy characteristic from him and even asking for some helpadvise from me how to deal with that. If only I knew how.

2/27/14

My mom just came back today from her flight in Hawaii and I'm so disappointed that she wasn't able to buy the CDs that I asked her to look up. The main music store was closed when she tried to go and the music section in the mall's department store only had limited supply. I'll have to continue bugging her to check out for them next month.

I haven't still told her that I'm going to a concert next week. I haven't even bought a ticket yet but I'm quite sure that tickets are still available.

One of the companies who got back to me and asking for a retake of their entrance exam did not call me back after telling them that this week was my only time of availability. I'm worried but at the same time, I shouldn't be so sad considering that I hoped that I won't making it after finding out the shift of the job position that I applied for. I have stalled applying for now but I am still browsing at openings. Hope it won't be too late.

2/26/14

A lot of the shows I watch are returning this week. Some of them have already returned these past few weeks but all of them will be returning by this week.

Some of them will also end after this season and I will definitely miss them. Some of them are also progressing slowly and that is disappointing to see but I will still watch them. It's nice to follow one new show, Starcrossed, which I blogged about last week.

2/25/14 - Cavemen

I grabbed a copy of this movie yesterday when I went to Makati Cinema Square. I was actually there to check out a Booksale branch but I wasn't able to find anything interesting and ended up checking out the pirated movies instead. I was surprised to see this movie on one of the stores. Iwas disappointed that my trip was going to be empty-handed until I made this purchase.

This was one of the movies I found on Youtube after stumbling upon its trailer and I knew that I had to watch this movie. It stars several people that I like especially its leading actors, Camilla Belle, Chad Michael Murray and Skylar Astin.

Cavemen is another romantic comedy movie revolving around the lives of bestfriends living under the same apartment which they call their "cave", hence the title. Like any other typical movie, they are fond of going to clubs and hooking up with different hot girls. But when Dean, played by Astin, comes into a realization with the help of his nephew and ex, played by Belle, that he wants to find true love and having a serious relationship, he finds it a difficult task going through the temptation of lust from other attractive ladies as well as his lack of experience of what true love really is.

I have seen this kind of movie many times before but what I really love about this film aside from its actors is the soundtrack! I quickly fell in love with the songs played in the background all throughout the movie and I even had to Google it right after. I found out that the soundtrack is coming out soon and that is definitely something that I cannot wait for.

This movie may not be great for others but it still has its replay value. I'm really lucky to find the single copy of this movie since I doubt that this will be shown here in our local theaters.

2/23/14

I have some plans to go book hunting tomorrow. Well, not really, but there's this bookstore that I plan on checking out before heading to the gym. If I find something nice, then I may buy it. I might as well check out the whole place since it's a mall with cheap goods and it's not exactly a 5-star mall and there are a lot of tiangge-type of stores so I may find some hidden gems.

2/20/14 - MKTO

MKTO is a musical duo consisting of Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller, meeting on the set of a Nickelodeon show called Gigantic as well as appearing on other films. Their stage name comes from the initials of their names. But in an interview, they also said that it represented the kind of music they make, Misfit Kids and Total Outcasts, which is aimed mostly at high school students.

Despite a generic theme, both of them proves that they can still create some head-bopping music. We've seen some musical acts coming from Nickelodeon such as Big Time Rush and Ariana Grande but MKTO is the one whose music is something that I like.

Their debut album was just released this month and it includes 11 tracks including collaborations with Jessica Ashley and Ne-Yo. Prior to the release of the album, they released three singles within the past year, Thank You, Classic and God Only Knows. All three of them were so catchy especially Thank You which is some sort of rebel's anthem for standing up against those who have looked down upon them.

What I like about them is their dynamic, with Tony providing the pop and singing vocals while Malcolm compliments with his smooth rapping to keep the fast pace of the songs.

Heartbreak Holiday may be one of the most genuine and heartbreaking songs to be sung by those who experience the tragic feelings of love and rejection which is timely for this month's celebration of Valentine's Day. However, Their collab with Ne-Yo, Could Be Me, shows an optimistic view of relationships and how this guy is what the girl is really looking for.

I don't always give musical acts from kidde networks/shows a try but they manage to create fun pop music that doesn't reach too far from their image unlike some current Disney pop girls and that is something I appreciate. This album is one of my fave pop albums this year.

Top tracks: Heartbreak Holiday, Thank You and God Only Knows

2/18/14 - Starcrossed debut

I watched a pilot episode of a new show called Starcrossed today. It's another TV series airing on The CW showcasing the romance between a human and an alien. The plot is nothing new, in fact, it is very similar to Roswell, another show I like except this time, the alien presence is acknowledged by the public and the main characters also have to deal with that particular subject among others. I'm not generally open to new shows as I am already watching too much but ever since hearing upon this show, I knew it was something to watch out for especially since the main stars are very familiar to me, Aimee TeeGarden from Friday Night Lights as well as Matt Lanter, a favorite of mine whom we last saw in the now defunct remake of 90210. The rest of the ensemble includes Grey Damon Malese Jow, Natalie Hall, Chelsea Gilligan and Greg Finley.

If you like romance then this show may be for you I am hoping this show would be successful.

Here's the trailer:

2/16/14

So now that I'm finished posting my Best of 2013 lists, it's time to go back posting regular updates on my regular life.

Nothing much has been going on. I did have a job interview last week which I never got to share what happened. I actually went to take an assessment exam and an interview as well. But it seems like I did not get the job as I have received no feedback since then. Another wasted opportunity as I felt like I nailed the exam. I probably faltered during the interview or perhaps I was asking a higher salary. I did not give them any specific amount except that I wanted a salary that is higher than any of my previous salaries which I realized may be too much for the position I applied for. But to be totally honest, despite how attractive the job may entail, I suddenly became hesitant to receive a job offer after learning that their AM shift is from 10 am to 7 pm. I was hoping the shift would start earlier for personal and practical reasons but it's too late to dwell on this anyway and time to move on and look for another job.

We had dinner with my uncle from China who was having a short vacation here in the country. He talked updates on his life and career as well He gave us our Christmas gifts and I received an H&M shades which was really cool. I actually received an aviator type but after seeing my younger brother receiving shades as well but in a different style, I asked for a trade since I already had the same type. The one he got was a simple black wayfarer and I wanted to add one in my collection. I was so happy that he agreed to make a switch.

2/12/14 - Endless Love

Say Goodbye to Innocence is one of the theme statements from this remake of a 1981 movie that featured the likes of Brooke Shields, Martin Hewitt and Tom Cruise.

That specific line is very accurate for the plot of the new adaptation directed by Shana Feste and top-billed by Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde. The ensemble consists of Robert Patrick, Rhys Wakefield, Bruce Greenwood and Joely Richardson.

The central theme of the story revolves around the passionate love between two young teenagers fresh off high school living under different situations, a modern day Romeo and Juliet perhaps. Alex plays David, a boy who had a violent past but has changed since then and continues to help his family by taking jobs including a valet parker and a mechanic at his father's (Patrick) garage shop. He falls in love with one of the most beautiful and smartest girl in his batch, Jade, played by Gabriella. Unlike David, Jade lives a very comfortable life under the roof of her successful and wealthy family, with a writer and a doctor as her parents, played by Greenwood and Richardson. However, her life has not been easy with the loss of her brother Keith in her teen years which has affected not only her social life but her entire family including her other brother, Chris (Wakefield).

David and Jade crosses paths right after graduation and the romance sparks from there. Though there romance face tough challenges, they find a way to make it work but their families continue to become a huge road block in their love story.

The story is your typical romantic movie that has been done over and over again in most movies but if you're looking for a sweet movie this Valentine's day with your partner, then this may be your only option as there's no other romance-themed movies out this week.

One thing that I love about this movie is its soundtrack. I even had to look up the songs right after I arrived home to download them. The casting had a bunch of good actors but Alex may be a miscast. It's a bit hard to see him play these roles as he seem to be more fit as a villain but I can see why they would cast him, just to attract the female audience.

Despite the recycled storyline, they still tried to make some changes to make it different than the original adaptation. I have not seen the original nor knew this was taken from a novel but the first one apparently did well in the music department, with its theme song garnering some nominations at the Grammys.

If you enjoy young love movies, then you'll have to watch this for sure.

Shout-out to Pinoyexchange for giving me free tickets for the advance screening of this movie last night after winning one of their contests!

2/9/14

I was supposed to update this with my Best of 2013 lists but I have been so busy today. I'm having an assessment exam tomorrow at a company I applied to and I think it's a good company that I would like to work for. I won't be disappointed if I don't get the job but the exam shouldn't be too hard since it's just the application of some MS Office programs.

The job position or function is not exactly glamorous but I hope they have a good offer considering that the job has a shifting/rotating schedule and that is usually a dealbreaker for me. The office is also in a good location and probably the best one among the companies I've been with or applied to so far.

But I'm not going to stress myself over that for now. I'm also going to pick up some movie tickets that I won over a forum. It's for an advance screening of a romantic comedy that is coming out this week and I'm so excited!

2/6/14 - Robocop

Let me take a short break from posting my yearend countdowns for this specific movie, Robocop.

Set in the future of America where, this reboot tells the story of a simple cop who suffers a tragic fate but is given a second shot to live through modern technology, specifically by putting his body into a robot.

During this time, there is still conflict with the use of robots to battle crime in America, the team behind the creation of robots, Dr. Cellars of Omnicorp, argues that using robots will save more lives and is more efficient while the opposing party which consists of senators argue that the robots lack human nature which can be vital in determining the fate of these alleged criminals.

The movie consists of a fairly supported cast, leading them is Joel Kinnaman who plays the main character. The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton.

I don't remember much of the original version but I know it was good and it somehow left an impact when it comes to movies which is why I'm also surprised that they have done a remake of this movie already. But this new take can hold its own ground The ending could have had a better finish though.

It would be very interesting to see if our streets were filled with our own version of Robocops but I doubt it will ever happen, at least not in my country.

There you have it, my favorite Glee songs from 2013. I admit it wasn't so hard since the song selections were not hard but it doesn't mean the show has gotten worse. I think we've seen the show improving these past two seasons and it will be interesting how they will end the show next season.

2/2/14 - Best of 2013 (Movies)

Happy February! I can't believe it has been more than a month into the year already!

For the next couple of posts, I shall be posting my yearend countdown that I made and posted on a separate forum and I just want to share. I don't think I'll be able to explain them anymore. These are already late but it's worth sharing anyway.

I have already posted my Top 10 TV shows so here are what you can expect:
-My favorite Movies
-My favorite songs
-My favorite Albums/EPs
-My favorite Glee songs

I should warn you that some of them are long lists which is also the reason why I can't do write-ups anymore.

Let's start this with my list of:

1. Gravity

2. Catching Fire

3. Thor 2: Dark World

4. Iron Man 3

5. The Way Way Back

6. The Croods

7. Fast & Furious 6

8. The Bling Ring

9. The Lifeguard

10. Some Girls

So there you have it! The Sandra Bullock-George Clooney starrer tops my list of favorite films in 2013! It should be noted that I only considered those that are released in 2013. The list may change if I included movies that I have watched last year but not necessarily released during the same year. I may create another list for that.
